THE DIGEST📰

Local animal shelter Phoenix Rising Rescue to close Its doors🐶

Phoenix Rising Rescue, a cherished local animal shelter, has announced that it will be closing its doors soon. For years, the organization has been a vital sanctuary for animals in need, providing them with love, care, and a chance at a better life.

Phoenix Rising Rescue has been more than just a shelter; it has been a beacon of hope for countless animals and an integral part of our community. The closure marks the end of an era for many who have supported and benefited from the shelter's invaluable services. 😔

As Phoenix Rising Rescue prepares to close, the community reflects on the impact it has had and the significant void it will leave behind. I recently had the opportunity to chat with the owner of Phoenix Rising Rescue for an in-depth interview. Have a seat…

Q 1: What inspired you to start the dog rescue organization?

A: I had already been rescuing pitties because of the great need in our area. But when I lost my pittie, Phoenix, I launched the rescue in his honor.

Q 2: Can you share a memorable story about a dog that was rescued and found a forever home?

A: In 2021 we rescued a dog we named PI. She was nearly hairless with mange and major skin infections. We were advised she likely wouldn't make it. Well. She not only survived, she thrived! And was eventually adopted by an amazing couple.

Q 3: How has running the rescue changed your life personally?

A: We have a waiting list for most of the dogs. As one gets adopted, we take the next on the wait list. Sometimes, if an emergency arises, we will just create space out of thin air.

Q 4: What’s the most rewarding part of running a dog rescue?

A: The most rewarding part is having the dogs always remember me...even years after they're adopted.

Q 5: Can you share an example of how a rescued dog has positively impacted its new family?

A: We had a pup adopted 3 years ago named CHIP. He ended up being a Rock for his momma as she went through a very depressed time. He is now a service dog and an emotional support animal that ministers to the enlisted men and women in our military suffering from PTSD.

Q 6: How have you seen the community support your rescue, and how has that support helped?

A: We would never be able to rescue without our community. There has NEVER been a dog we couldn't save because we couldn't raise the funds.

Q 7: Can you describe a dog that made a significant impact on your life or the rescue’s mission?

A: There was a dog named Valentine that was a bait dog here in Escambia County. She had her lips ripped off by fighting dogs and was so beaten and sick. We were able to help her and she's the first dog that brought this community together with Phoenix Rising.

Q 8: What role do local businesses and organizations play in supporting your rescue?

A: We do have a couple local organizations that support us...Navy Fed, Anderson Subaru, Back to the Rack Thrift Store, Alyssa's, and more. It accounts for about 20% of our donations.

Q 9: Can you share a story about a dog that had a particularly tough journey but ultimately thrived?

A: Look up WHISPER on our Facebook page by searching the name. Incredible story of success 30. We've united families and saved lives. With over 2500 dogs and pups saved this past decade, we're pretty proud. Here’s the link: https://www.facebook.com/share/i2ZsMfa2DKS5TLZ9/?mibextid=WC7FNe

Q 10: What challenges have you faced in keeping the rescue running, and how have you overcome them?

A: Our biggest challenge has always been funding. But we hustle and fund-raise like crazy to make ends meet

Q 11: How do you handle the emotional challenges of rescuing dogs in need?

A: I have a great circle of friends that encourage me and allow me to fall apart when needed. And I PRAY HARD

Q 12: How have you adapted your rescue’s approach in response to the rising fees and financial pressures?

A: We've had to increase adoption fees to help cover the cost Rising. We've also had to feed cheaper food, use cheaper cleaning and laundry products, etc.

Q 13: Can you describe a time when a donation or act of kindness made a significant difference to your rescue?

A: Once, a couple of kids set up a lemonade stand to raise funds for the dogs. It wasn't much money, but the heart behind it touched me deeply and changed the way I view donors. It's not about who can give the most. It's about who can love the most.

I hope this insight into the journey and challenges faced by Phoenix Rising Rescue has provided you with a deeper understanding of the shelter’s impact and the circumstances leading to its closure. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the shelter’s dedicated team and to all of you who have supported their mission. Your compassion and commitment have made a significant difference in the lives of many animals.

The first Whataburger located outside of Texas was built in Pensacola🍔

Here's a step-by-step guide to ensure a smooth and organized relocation, so save this for later:

 1. Build a Solid 1st Tier: Start by loading heavy items like your couch

(standing up, wrapped and padded, legs against the wall, dresser, and washer/dryer to distribute weight properly. Protect your belongings with furniture pads and mover’s wrap. And don't forget to use a dolly for those hefty pieces!

 2. Mattress Matters: Safeguard your mattress in a mattress bag and position it on its side against the truck's side wall. Plan ahead, as loading the mattress early impacts how you arrange everything.

 3. Stack with Care: Stack moving boxes and lighter furniture on your established base. Nightstands are perfect for the second layer – keep it organized! Add an extra layer of protection with furniture pads or boxes.

 4. Weight Matters: Prioritize weight over size when stacking boxes.

Heavy boxes go at the bottom to avoid any toppling surprises.

 5. Stay Upright: No leaning! Keep items upright within rows to minimize shifting.

 6. Maximize Space: Use the space above rows for long, lightweight items like skis or folding tables.

7. Repeat for Success: Repeat these steps for each row and secure with tie-down ropes. Utilize narrow gaps for a snug fit, especially for fragile items. Watch out for scuffing when leaning rolled-up rugs against other items. Final Check: After the final tie-down is secured, you're all set for a confident move!
